Salvia ‘Blue Note’
A bushy salvia with fabulous deep blue flowers for months in the summer. Great in containers. Will need a sheltered corner for over wintering in a well-drained sunny spot, or over winter under cover. (PBR)
Salvia ‘Indigo Spires’
Wonderful spikes of violet-blue flowers from July to late autumn. Not fully hardy so take cuttings in the autumn or grow in a container and overwinter under cover. Prefers a well-drained position.
Salvia X Jamensis ‘Hot Lips’ (syn. S. Microphylla 'Hot Lips')
White and scarlet flowers for months in summer. Needs a sheltered corner for overwintering in well drained soil, or bring under cover.
Salvia ‘Love and Wishes’
A bushy plant with dark stems and dark cerise flowers with a darker calyx, for months from June. Probably not fully hardy so for very sheltered spot in well-drained soil, or grow in a container and give winter protection. Ready about June.
Salvia Nemorosa ‘Caradonna’
Narrow spikes of deep purple flowers, from July.
Salvia Officinalis ‘Purpurascens’
Purple sage’. Purple scented foliage with spikes of blue flowers in June and July.
Salvia X Sylvestris ‘Maynight’ (syn. S. X Syl.'Mainacht')
Hairy leaves, good show of indigo-violet flowers on thin spikes, with reddish-purple bracts for weeks from midsummer. Dead-head to prolong flowering.
A hardy Salvia for damp soils, no wonder we like it! Tall willowy stems of sky blue flowers in late summer. When happy, creeps about a bit. Late to come through in the spring. Should be ready in May.
